Using Technology in the Classroom

Technology is changing the way the classroom works. For better or for worse, technology in the classroom is here to stay. Teachers and students are utilizing the advancements in technology to improve the learning process, to help with test scores, and to lower the cost of education. Below is a list of ways technology is helping in the classroom.

  1. Helping students to learn new concepts. There is technology that will help students learn shapes, math, and even new words. There’s a word processing program from Microsoft that helps young students learn shapes. Teachers use presentation software to interact with the students while they see the information from their own computers.
  2. Note taking. Technology helps students with note taking. Notes can be much more accurate with new technology. Students can easily add, delete, or change information in their notes at any time. This makes studying for test or comprehending new subjects easier because the notes make sense. Technology like graphic organizers, Kidspiration, Microsoft Word and hand-held computers help with the note taking process.
  3. Homework. Even homework is easier with the use of technology. Teachers can communicate homework expectations with their students efficiently and students can know what is expected of them up front. Using technology like teacher webpages, email, PowerPoint and lesson plan tools can help with the homework process. It also eliminates any excuses, like not knowing what the assignment is.

Kids nowadays of all ages are familiar with technology. It only makes sense then that technology is utilized in the classroom. If kids are using technology at home and for play, then they should also be using the same technology to learn. Technology can greatly enhance the classroom experience for many students. Computers, the Internet, and special software are all helping educational systems to advance and improve.
