It wasn’t that long ago that teaching in a classroom consisted of a teacher, students, a number 2 pencil and a textbook. For many years, this was how teaching was done. But now, in the new century with all kinds of advances in technology, teaching in a classroom has become much more advanced. With the invention of digital media, teachers are able to connect with their students in ways that were never before thought possible. Subjects become real and students are able to learn and understand on a new level. Below are just a few of the technological advances that are now common in the classroom.
- Students create movies. Yes, that’s right, students as young as elementary school age are making movies. This is a very useful teaching tool as students can make a movie with a video recorder, even a flip video machine, about world history, other countries, or even worldwide epidemics. By turning a history subject into a modern day technology lesson, the students learn about the past while handling the future.
- E-books. Many classrooms in the public school system and in colleges are now replacing textbooks with e-books. E-books are much cheaper and easier to update. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on text books every year, school districts can now download the latest version of the book for a fraction of the cost.
- Computers. The computer has changed every aspect of daily life and the classroom is no exception. Many classrooms across the country are actually equipped with several personal computers and laptops. These computers offer interactive lessons and new ways to teach the students.
Technology is certainly changing the world. It’s also rapidly changing our classrooms. With digital media readily available, students and teachers are better equipped to handle the changes in the world today.
