It used to be that teachers had to focus on teaching students how to read, write and other subjects. However, with the introduction of technology into the classroom, one of the extra lessons that teachers are responsible for is the ability to teach students how to type properly on the computer. Typing is a fundamental skill that anyone who plans on using the computer should know how to do. Here is a look at how teachers are coping with the daunting task of teaching students how to type.
Typing Software Programs. There are hundreds of teaching how-to-type software programs. Each program will contain a tutorial that walks the child through the various parts of the computer, the keyboard and basics of typing. After the tutorial the child will be lead through thousands of exercises that will develop the muscles in their fingers and hands which will help them type. Typing software programs range from basic children’s typing lessons like a version put out by Disney, to a more sophisticated adult version known as Mavis Beacon. Each typing program will track the student’s progress and show them areas that need to be improved.
Online Typing Programs. There are dozens of online websites that focus on teaching children to type. While these might not contain the tutorial section that the typing software programs do, it does teach the basics of typing to the younger children. The best feature of the online typing programs is that most of them present typing with games. This allows children to see that typing and learning to type can be fun and exciting and encourage them to keep learning.
No matter what style you choose to use to teach your children to type, the important thing to remember is that you are introducing them to a very basic computer function that these students will use for their entire life.
